AlcoChange Clinical Trial Patient App:

AlcoChange is a digital therapeutic designed to provide digital behaviour change interventions (DBCIs) for individuals with alcohol-related liver disease (ArLD). These DBCIs are based on the CyberLiver Behaviour Change (CBC) Model, which integrates multiple behaviour change principles into a model tailored for liver disease patients.

AlcoChange, as an adjunct to a contingency management system, is intended for patients 18 years of age and older who are currently enrolled in outpatient treatment under the supervision of a clinician. AlcoChange is indicated as a 90-day prescription-only treatment for patients with ArLD. AlcoChange is intended to increase abstinence and retention within the outpatient treatment program.

Set up drink-free goals

Behaviour change starts with setting up a goal, AlcoChange recommends you to set drink-free goals and facilitates action planning by recording your reasons to stay drink-free, triggers for drinking and personalising coping strategies that could help overcome the urge to drink. Goals are reviewed and reset throughout the therapy.

Personalised engagement and self-monitoring

Personalised engagement nudges facilitate recording abstinence or alcohol use or avert and manage alcohol cravings. You can also self-record your progress in the app and monitor your progress through the tools.

Motivation and Self-Efficacy

AlcoChange uses reinforcement and motivation techniques like empathy & normative feedback to encourage abstinence by using positive appreciation when you demonstrate abstinence and motivation when you desire to drink or after recording a drink.

Track your cravings and triggers.

Record cravings and triggers with just a tap, and get help to overcome the cravings using personalised options. This is used to better understand how you’re managing your cravings and how helpful the treatment is.

Social Support

The ability to reach out for support when you’re struggling to manage your cravings or alcohol use is just a click away in the app, which will connect you with your designated supportive contact (your family member or a friend) or additional support options like the UK Drink Line or NHS Alcohol Support Page.
